Overview

Huntingdon Gardens offer quality residential living with the highest level of care and support.The environment and furnishings have been carefully designed and selected to provide residents with a comforting, home-like environment.

Huntingdon Gardens provides quality residential care. We also have accommodation specially designed for the needs of residents with dementia, in an independent wing called the Wattle Suite. Our facility provides a safe, secure environment for all our residents, including access to their own courtyard gardens, where residents can socialise, relax and move around freely.


General Features of Residential Care Suites and Rooms


  • The facility has been designed to provide the highest standards in comfort, privacy and assistance so our residents can continue to enjoy a fulfilling life.
  • Individual suites are generously sized and are fully furnished in a comfortable home-like style, with coordinated fabrics, furnishings and floor coverings.
  • Each suite is fully furnished and has a fully adjustable, electrically operated bed, built-in wardrobe,some include a writing desk and stylish chair.
  • There is a refrigerator, sink and tea and coffee-making amenities available to all residents.
  • All suites have the year round comfort of reverse cycle, ducted air conditioning.
  • Residents can personalise their rooms with photos, decorations and even smaller items of their own furniture.
  • There are two lifts operating to service the four levels of the building.
  • Each room has a telephone or access to a telephone and a complete monitoring and emergency call system, enabling residents to access staff assistance 24 hours a day.
  • An individual television set is provided in each room, along with facilities for a personal computer with internet connection or WIFI capabilities, if desired.
  • Many suites have a bay window with a writing table and chair, allowing residents to make the most of the natural light and pleasant outlook over beautifully landscaped courtyards and gardens.
  • Recreational facilities includes a library with books and DVDs, internet, club lounge room, entertainment facilities and craft room, quiet and sun rooms, as well as comfortable, lounge/dining areas for each group of rooms and a private function room for family functions and entertaining.
  • A fully equipped servery is available on levels 3 and 4 for residents to use, including toasters and microwave ovens.

    Electric High/Low bed, built-in wardrobe and quality furniture. All rooms have flat screen televisions.

    3O - Shared Suite

    Electric High/Low bed, built-in wardrobe and quality furniture. All rooms have flat screen televisions.


    Care and services

    Meals

    Residents are offered three meals per day, freshly cooked onsite and served in the more intimate dining areas where the resident resides.

    A choice of menu is available for all meals. Menus are reviewed regularly by a dietician in consultation with residents and are changed on a regular basis. Special diets and cultural taste can be catered for and meals can be served in residents' own rooms on request.

    Meals can also be arranged in advance for visitors who wish to dine with their loved ones at Huntingdon Gardens.

    Care available

    Residential Care

    Huntingdon Gardens provides residential care and low level respite care. Residents are encouraged to be as independent as possible, with the support of our caring, highly trained and skilled staff. Residents are also encouraged and assisted to continue their daily routines and activities wherever possible and to improve their overall quality of life.

    We provide:
    • Personal assistance care is available where necessary and a staff member is on call 24 hours a day, via a complete monitoring and emergency call system.
    • Qualified physiotherapist and exercise physiologist are available to provide physiotherapy, pain clinic and wellness activities.
    • Visiting hairdresser, beautician, podiatrist and other therapy services are available by appointment.
    • Extensive individual and group activity programs are provided. These programs focus on the activities each resident enjoys doing, under the guidance of a Recreational Activity Officer (RAO). Activities may include gardening, arts, crafts, music, sports mornings, golf and fishing.
    • Huntingdon Gardens is conveniently located close to the heart of Rockdale, Other nearby features include Rockdale Shopping Plaza, Community facilities, Clubs, Cinema and Railway stations. Beautiful Brighton-le-Sands Beach is only 10 minutes drive away. There are government bus services right at the door to many suburbs.
    • A mini coach is provided for shopping and other leisure outings arranged by the staff.
    • Residents are free to practice their own religion with family, friends or visiting religious leaders, either in the privacy of their room or in the specially designed reflection room.
    • Our staff can speak a number of different languages.
    • Choice of visiting doctors is available and the "St George Area Geriatric Assessment In Nursing Home Programme" service is also available. This helps to minimise hospital admissions.
    • Staff can provide assistance in obtaining hospital and specialist medical services at St George Public and Private hospital or Calvary and Canterbury Hospital if required.
    High Level Respite Care

    High Level Respite Care is also available for approved residents at Huntingdon Gardens who require a greater amount of support. Professional, caring and highly skilled staff provides 24 hour nursing and other care to residents with higher level care needs and who may require assistance with daily living and nursing care on a temporary basis.

    Charges and what they cover

    The Commonwealth Government, which provides the subsidy to support aged care services, decides the resident fees under the Aged Care Act 1997. Please refer to the Department of Social Services publication entitled "Five Steps to Entry into an Aged Care Home" for more details of the fees and payments.

    Before you agree to move into Huntingdon Gardens, the resident fees appropriate to you will be calculated and discussed with you and a family member or a friend. We strongly recommend that you contact the Australian Government Department of Social Services through their Aged and Community Care Information Line 1800 500 853 or access the government's My Aged Care website and ask as many questions as you need to.

    As a guide, your care fees contributes towards the cost of the following:
    • Living expenses like meals and refreshments.
    • Linen and personal laundry (there is also domestic laundry available on Level 3 in the Boronia Suites for residents personal use, at no extra charge).
    • Assisted living care including some personal care as required (but excluding other professional services).
    • Air conditioning (heating and cooling).
    • Cleaning and maintenance of the facility.
    • Fire safety and security.
    • Administration and staff costs.
    • Rates, taxes and charges payable to councils and government authorities.

    Residential Care

    If you are entering Residential Care these are the fees and charges that maybe applicable to you:
    • A Basic Daily Care Fee (payable by all pensioners and non pensioners).
    • A Daily Means Tested Fee (based on an income and asset assessment by Centrelink or the Department of Veterans' Affairs).
    • An Accommodation Payment, which may be paid as a Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD), or as a Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP), or a combination of both.
    • Additional fees may apply, which covers items such as newspapers and hairdressing.

    Before you move into the facility, the amount of your fees and accommodation payments will be discussed with you. An Agreement will be provided to you in advance, detailing the options for payment and the rights and responsibilities of both Huntingdon Gardens and the resident.


    Eligibility assessment and application

    Entry to Huntingdon Gardens is based on a thorough assessment, and consultation with the prospective resident, their family and community care workers. Prior to admission, all applicants must be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT), and have a completed ACCR form. This will confirm that the applicant would be suitable and has approval, to receive assisted living, Low Level Care.
